PISQUEYA’S PACKAGING IS 100% RECYCLABLE
You heard/read that right! We look for items that are recyclable or compostable when we consider our packaging. We care about the environment and preserving the freshness of our ingredients. Our packaging provides both – win-win! Additionally, our logo, the lizard, is meant to reflect the beauty in nature and our habitat. In the Dominican Republic, lizards sadly face a possibility of extinction due to the deforestation that’s happening right now on the Island. Our label is also a form of drawing awareness to this and being more eco-conscious.
Tumba y Quema, a documentary by Jose Maria Cabral draws awareness to the harmful practice of deforestation in the Dominican Republic, which in turn endangers the environment and its habitants – see here. And, speaking of animals and raising awareness…
PISQUEYA GIVES BACK
In addition to caring directly for the earth, another way to help is to be kind… that is to other people and our animal friends. Pisqueya extends a paw to the animals in the Caribbean. Being born in New York and raised between there and the Dominican Republic, Pisqueya’s Founder, Maritza, was able to see the differences in animal welfare. In the USA, animals and cats are seen as furry friends and companions, but in many areas of the Dominican Republic and other islands, these beautiful creatures are seen as mere obstacles, undeserving of compassion. Because of this, Pisqueya donates all proceeds of their merch sales to local groups in the Dominican Republic who fight to protect animals from violence and malnutrition. Learn more here.
Caring for each other, all beings from earth, is one of the ways we save the planet. The earth relies on us all to blossom and live in harmony. Now, with our technology and large societies all around the globe, our impact on this beautiful planet is HUGE! It’s important to always keep that in mind and remember, as Howard Zinn once said, “Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.”
Next time you’re enjoying a breath of fresh air, the wind in your hair, the vibrant colors around you, the smell of flowers and rain, and the sound of birds chirping, remember that earth is here to satisfy all our needs and that this planet is worth fighting for.
The time to act is now. Let’s make earth day everyday!
Making Earth Day Everyday
Earth Day and Earth Week are the times of year that are meant to inspire and amplify action worldwide toward building a sustainable future together. However, we should be making strides every day, from recycling, to upcycling, to being conscious of the materials we use. Let’s remember that the earth is what we all have in common… It provides us with fresh air and clean water - two elements that are essential to our survival. Nature works in harmony to make a planet full of life and natural beauty. In return, let’s also work together and be kind to it.
